About Dental Implants
Dental implants are a modern and exciting new dental procedure that make it possible for a patient to replace a tooth or teeth for a long-lasting, natural-looking result. At Beyond Smiles Dental Care in Fort Worth, TX we offer multiple and single tooth dental implants (crowns, bridges, partial dentures, full dentures) that are designed to look and feel like real teeth. Before the placement of a dental implant, board-certified dentist, Dr. Edwina Evangelista, will carefully examine and assure a patient's oral health is otherwise stable before surgically installing a metal post into the jaw that will, after healing, hold the new, custom designed dental implant. If dental implants seem like they may be a solution to your dental health concerns, give our office a call today.
What to Expect
Before Dr. Evangelista will perform the dental implant procedure, careful checkups and examinations will be completed by dental professionals at Beyond Smiles Dental Care to ensure the patient is a good candidate for the procedure and that their mouth, gums and jawbone are all healthy enough for the treatment. If Dr. E believes a patient to be healthy enough, X-rays and dental impressions will be taken of their mouth to help create custom implants that will accurately match the patients mouth in terms of shape, size and color. Prior to the procedure, the patient will receive anesthesia to minimize patient discomfort. At this time, Dr. E will carefully install the titanium post which the future implant will be adhered to. Healing after this procedure can take between 3 - 6 months, depending on the scope of the process.
Temporary vs. Permanent
Once the dental implant is set, a patient has the option of temporary or permanent replacement teeth. Permanent teeth such as crowns and bridges are fixed into place. Some patients may opt for removable dentures that can be moved as needed. Dr. Evangelista will work with the patient in order to determine the best option.
After the dental implants are installed, most patients report little to no pain. If there is any soreness, an over-the-counter pain medication can be taken. It is important for a patient to practice good oral hygiene after the procedure. This includes regularly brushing, flossing, and rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash. It’s also important to keep up with regular dental appointments. If a patient practices proper oral hygiene and treats the implant with care, a dental implant is extremely durable and should last for a lifetime. In some instances, the replacement teeth may deteriorate due to wear and tear and may need to be replaced.
The cost of dental implants can vary widely depending on the number of teeth being replaced and the complexity of the case. For the most part, dental implants can cost $1,000 to $3,000. During your consultation at Beyond Smile Dental Care, we would be glad to discuss your options for the payment of this dental procedure.
